We prepare to shove off on a dhow for a day of sailing and snorkeling.

A cruise on a traditional dhow is an unforgettable experience.

While docile by nature and generally not fatal to humans, you don't want to get too close to those spines.

Urchins are abundant on the reef or coral heads just off shore.

An elevated walkway spans part of the tour of Mida Creek, a large mangrove creek creating a unique and crucial environment along the coast.

Our fearless guide reaches to his shoulder to catch a rather unwilling crab.

He couldn't dig fast enough. Don't worry, he was quickly returned unharmed.

The guides of Mida Creek are incredibly knowledgeable. He he describes the diffrences between the various mangrove seeds.

A local fisherman came by with a stingray he had just caught.

The suspended walkway provides a great tour of the tidal zone.

The tide at Mida Creek recedes hundreds of meters, leaving many invertebrates exposed in small tide pools all over the mud flat.

The ocean views are breathtaking. This is a shot from the beach deck at our hotel in Kilifi.
